INTRODUCTION

Wojtek Wieteskas Photography is set in the tradition of classical documentary photography with a strongly subjective hue. However, through their sophisticated style his photos acquire a powerful hint of individuality. Since 1986 he has undertaken numerous voyages creating photographic projects with a direct lien to the visited place. Wojtek Wieteskas most recent travel series consists of photos from New York City. It is a highly individual and personal look at the enormous metropolis. This authentic record is characterized by maximal simplicity in capturing form, excellent craftsmanship and great feel for light. Natural light – shadows, contours, flashes and reflections, give Wojtek Wieteska’s New York an additional dimension of spatiality an depth. Wieteska does not photograph the city as such – he photographs its space, and does not emphasise its modern architecture – architecture only delimits the recorded area. And then there are the relations of this architecture to human figures, generally anonymous in Wieteska’s photos, which constitute almost organically integrated elements into the background. Photography is often perceived as an attempt to recreate the world that surrounds us. However, a photographer’s intention is to record this world in a way that is particular solely to him.. Wojtek Wieteska’s New York photographs exemplify this. Marek Grygil
